Information and stories about career aviator Jack Dunn
It is with great sadness that Jack Dunn passed away the first of November, 2020, at the age of 96. He was a good friend and resource to all that had the privilege of knowing him and benefitting from his wisdom. Jack Dunn was truly one of a kind, and leaves an amazing legacy. -=Roy=-
WHO
Jack Dunn was a career aviator from 1942 until 2001. During that time he experienced and participated in a variety of activities related to the history of aviation. These included being a Hellcat fighter pilot during World War II, a Navy test pilot during the Korean War era, flying for Delta Airlines, developing the C-130 and C-5A for Lockheed, being a Corporate Pilot, and involvement in a variety of flight training roles. Jack has also been a lifelong model builder from the early days of “free flight” models through modern day radio controlled models.
WHAT AND WHY
I met Jack Dunn in 2001, and it immediately became apparent that we were “kindred spirits”, even though at the age of 92 he is old enough to be my father! Having listened with great interest to Jack’s stories over the years, it became clear to me that Jack needed to be “shared” with others. So in January of 2012 I began videotaping Jack about his remembrances. Over the next several months I collected over 14 hours of talking with Jack, with the hopes of creating a DVD or something. It is now going on four years that I have been mulling over how to share these videos and trying to make time to process them.
What I have finally decided on, is to create video clips and post them on a YouTube channel. This provides the following benefits:
WHERE
This web site is the starting point. Go to the page that has the video descriptions, and a direct link to the video. If you are interested in more than the videos you can poke around on this site. I highly recommend beginning with the “Bio” page to get a little background history about Jack that will help you put the videos into perspective.

What I have finally decided on, is to create video clips and post them on a YouTube channel. This provides the following benefits:
- People can access the information and videos directly without the need to obtain a DVD.
- Can create this “table of contents” web site to index the videos.
- Can add supplemental information here, including links to pictures.
- Can post the videos on an ongoing basis over the next several months as they are edited and uploaded (a work in progress)..
- People can subscribe to the YouTube channel if they want to be informed when new videos have been posted.
- Allows getting an early start by posting some “starter stories” while others are being prepared (with apologies to those who have been waiting on me these several years).
- Allows folks to watch as much or as little of the collected videos as they wish, on their own time, and by their own interests.
- Information and stories can be shared beyond my domain.
